Whirlpool Summer Internship Program

If you are you an undergraduate or graduate student searching for the perfect internship, consider spending your summer with an industry-leading Fortune 500 company. Each summer, Whirlpool hires interns to work either at our global headquarters in Benton Harbor, Michigan or in one of our manufacturing facilities across the United States. These interns work in functions such as engineering, finance, accounting, marketing, human resources, information systems, supply chain, procurement, design, and legal. Internships typically range in duration from ten to thirteen weeks.

Challenging Assignments

Whirlpool internships are not the cliché: doing work no one else wants to do, filing, copying, etc. Our internship assignments are carefully designed to both provide you, the intern, with a rich learning experience, while also meeting the needs of our business. As a Whirlpool intern, you will work on high-impact projects and may find yourself leading meetings, providing recommendations to leaders, or interacting with global business partners.

Training and Interaction with Senior Leaders

Whirlpool understands that a summer internship is a precious opportunity for both you and the company. For this reason, we want to give you opportunities to get to know the company on a deeper level than you might in your daily work. We send our interns to a day of training at our Brandywine Creek Training Facility, where you work in cross-functional teams and take part in training and workshops that educate you about the company's core competencies and strategic initiatives.

Additionally, interns have multiple opportunities to hear from and ask questions of our senior leaders. Our CEO and his direct staff have been known to join our interns for breakfast or lunch sessions. They use this time to give you even more information about the organization, and they encourage you to ask questions and get to know them.

Field Trip To a Manufacturing Plant

Whirlpool interns working at our corporate offices often have the chance to travel to one of our manufacturing plants in North America. The most exciting trip included interns building their own stand mixer at the Greenville, Ohio KitchenAid manufacturing plant. This experience opens your eyes to the way a manufacturing operation is run, and gives you a greater appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into producing our products.

Build Networks and Get to Know the Community

Whirlpool coordinates events that will help you get to know your fellow interns, as well offer you the chance to explore the local community. In recent years, our corporate interns participated in a scavenger hunt that splits them into teams and sends them all over Benton Harbor and Saint Joseph, looking for town icons and hot spots.

Outside of company sponsored events, our interns often plan social activities together. Groups of interns may be found playing sports, hanging out in local parks such as the beautiful beaches of Southwest Michigan, or checking out the local nightlife.

Does Whirlpool ever hire interns to return for another internship or a full-time position?

Yes! Whirlpool treats an internship as an extensive final round interview, and often makes the decision to extend an offer for an intern to return to the company for an additional internship, or as a full-time hire.

Will I be paid for my internship?

Yes! Whirlpool interns receive a very competitive salary in addition to perks such as employee discounts on products, gym memberships and in some cases sign on bonuses which can be used for housing.

When does Whirlpool interview and hire summer interns?

Our internship hiring occurs later than our full-time campus hiring. In November we may start to conduct some on-campus interviews, but the majority of our internship interviewing takes place in the months of January and February.
